  This is the genuine Ford engine coolant temperature sender that threads into the cooling passage and feeds a variable resistance signal to the instrument cluster temperature gauge so the driver sees an accurate readout of engine operating temperature. It fits 1997 through 2008 Ford F-150 F-250 F-350 and E-150 E-250 E-350 E-Series vans across the inline six OHV and modular V8 engine families. A failing sender is what a buyer is chasing when the dash temperature gauge reads dead cold on a warmed up engine pegs to hot with no overheating flickers erratically or drops out intermittently while driving. Because it drives the gauge rather than the powertrain computer a bad unit will not always set a trouble code which is why the visual gauge behavior is the tell. This Motorcraft quality sender is a direct fit replacement that uses the original single terminal connection and requires no calibration. Note that it is separate from the engine management coolant temperature sensor the PCM uses for fuel and fan control so confirm you are replacing the gauge sender.
