• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford engine valve stem oil seal, the precision seal that fits over the valve stem and valve guide to control the amount of oil that passes down the guide into the combustion chamber and exhaust port. Seated at the top of the valve guide, it wipes oil from the reciprocating valve stem so the engine burns fuel cleanly while still allowing enough lubrication for the guide. This seal serves the 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L modular overhead-cam engine family, covering F-150 from 1997 through 2008 including the 2004 Heritage and the new-style body, Lincoln Mark LT, and F-250 and F-350 Super Duty from 1999 through 2007 with the 5.4L and 6.8L engines. A hardened, cracked, or worn valve stem seal is a common cause of blue exhaust smoke on startup, elevated oil consumption without external leaks, oil fouling of spark plugs, and light smoking under deceleration as oil is drawn past the guide under vacuum. Replacing the seals restores proper oil control and protects catalytic converters from oil contamination.
