• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford full-flow engine oil filter, the Motorcraft FL-820-S spin-on that serves as the workhorse filter for Ford's Modular V8 family. It traps abrasive metal, carbon and dirt from the circulating oil before it reaches the bearings, cam journals and valvetrain, and includes the internal bypass valve that keeps oil flowing if the media ever clogs plus an anti-drainback valve that holds oil in the filter at shutdown for faster pressure on cold start. It covers the 4.6L and 5.4L Modular V8 across an enormous range of Ford vehicles, including F-150 trucks, F-250 through F-550 Super Duty where the 4.6 and 5.4 were offered, Expedition, E-Series vans, and Mark LT, along with the corresponding Lincoln and Mercury car and truck applications of the Modular V8 era. Owners replace it at every oil change as routine maintenance; a neglected or failing filter can contribute to low oil pressure, a lit oil warning lamp, ticking lifters from oil starvation, or accelerated engine wear from unfiltered, contaminated oil circulating through the bearings. Using the genuine Motorcraft filter assures the correct thread pitch, gasket diameter, bypass pressure setting and anti-drainback valve for the engine, all of which generic filters can get subtly wrong and thereby cause dry-start rattle or leaks. Lubricate the new rubber sealing gasket with clean oil before installation, spin the filter on until the gasket contacts the mount, then tighten by hand to the specified additional turn to seat it without crushing the seal or leaving it loose enough to weep.
