• Description:

  This genuine Ford Motorcraft engine cooling fan clutch is the thermostatic drive that couples the mechanical radiator fan to the water-pump shaft, engaging when underhood temperature rises to pull more air through the radiator and freewheeling when the engine is cool to reduce drag, noise and fuel use. It fits 1998 to 2008 full-size Ford and Lincoln models including the Expedition and Navigator with the 4.6L and 5.4L V8 and air conditioning, the Lincoln Blackwood, and the new-body F-150 and Mark LT from 2004 to 2008. Inside the unit a silicone-filled coupling and bimetallic sensing coil vary fan speed with the temperature of air coming off the radiator core. A failing fan clutch shows up as persistent overheating in traffic or while towing, a loud continuous roar or airplane-like fan noise at startup and acceleration, poor air-conditioning performance at idle, a fan that spins freely by hand when the engine is hot, or fluid leaking from the clutch body. Because a locked or slipping clutch drives up coolant temperature and can crack a radiator or warp a cylinder head, replacement at the first sign of trouble is recommended. Install with the fan bolted squarely to the clutch flange, verify correct rotation, and inspect the fan blade, shroud and water-pump bearing at the same time. Using the correct Motorcraft clutch restores proper temperature-controlled fan engagement and quiet, efficient cooling.
