The BT-50 is a genuine Motorcraft accessory drive belt tensioner assembly for the 7.3L Power Stroke turbo diesel V8, fitting 1999-2003 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty, 2000-2003 Excursion, and E-Series vans with the 7.3L direct-injection diesel. The tensioner uses an internal spring and pivoting arm with an integrated pulley to maintain constant, correct tension on the serpentine accessory drive belt, keeping the belt properly loaded across the alternator, water pump, and other engine accessories as engine load and temperature change. A worn tensioner loses spring force and allows the belt to slip, which shows up as belt squeal or chirp, a fluttering or bouncing belt, premature belt wear, and in severe cases a thrown belt with loss of charging and cooling. A seized or noisy tensioner bearing produces a grinding or rattling noise at the front of the engine. Replacing the tensioner restores proper belt tension and quiets the accessory drive. This genuine Motorcraft assembly matches the original spring rate, arm geometry, and pulley for the 7.3L Power Stroke application, and is backed by the Ford and Motorcraft parts warranty.
