  This is a genuine Ford PCV valve, the positive crankcase ventilation valve used on 5.4L and 6.8L applications including Excursion, Expedition, E-Series, and F-Series. The PCV valve meters crankcase blow-by vapors out of the engine and back into the intake to be burned, regulating the flow with a spring-loaded check so the crankcase is ventilated without disturbing idle quality. By drawing off blow-by gases it controls crankcase pressure, reduces sludge and moisture buildup, and is part of the engine emissions control. Owners replace the PCV valve as routine maintenance and when it sticks open or closed, when a rough or rolling idle, oil leaks from seals under pressure, whistling, or excess oil consumption are traced to a faulty valve, or when the valve rattles incorrectly or is plugged with sludge.
