The Motorcraft YH-1697 HVAC blower motor resistor is the genuine Ford resistor assembly that controls fan speed for the heating and air conditioning blower on 1999 through 2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups and E-Series E-250 through E-550 vans, corresponding to Ford part 4C2Z-19A706-AA. On manual-control systems the resistor drops voltage to the blower motor at the lower fan settings, giving the low and medium speeds, while high speed typically bypasses the resistor. A burned, corroded, or open resistor is a common cause of a blower that works only on high, that has one or more dead speeds, or that stops blowing entirely, and an overheated resistor can result from a failing blower motor drawing excess current. It mounts in the HVAC housing airflow so it is cooled by the fan, and it is a plug-in electrical service item that installs without opening the refrigerant circuit. When one speed is lost, inspect the blower motor and connector for heat damage before fitting the new resistor. Installing the correct Motorcraft resistor restores all blower speeds. This is the Ford catalog blower motor resistor, an exact-fit replacement for the original.
