This genuine Ford part F81Z-4947-AA is the limited-slip differential clutch kit, cataloged by Ford as the clutch kit for the axle differential gear and also described as a clutch plate kit for the three-pinion differential, used in the rear axle of Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks equipped with a Traction-Lok limited-slip rear differential. The kit contains the friction and steel clutch plates that ride between the differential side gears and the case; under normal driving they allow differential action through turns, but when one wheel loses traction the spring-loaded clutch pack transfers torque to the wheel with grip. As the friction plates wear, the limited-slip action fades and drivers notice one wheel spinning easily on loose or wet surfaces, chatter or shudder felt through the chassis during tight low-speed turns, and clunking from the rear axle. Replacing the worn clutch plates with this genuine Ford kit restores proper torque bias and eliminates the chatter. Installation requires removing the differential carrier, disassembling the case, and reassembling with the correct clutch pack sequence and preload; always use fresh Ford or Motorcraft rear axle lubricant with the specified limited-slip friction modifier, as running the differential without the correct additive is a common cause of clutch chatter. Torque all differential and carrier fasteners to Ford specification.
