  This is a genuine Ford rear cylinder block plate, the engine rear cover plate that mounts at the back of the modular V8 block between the engine and the transmission bellhousing. The plate closes off the rear of the block at the crankshaft and flexplate area, helping to seal the engine-to-transmission interface against road debris and to maintain correct spacing and alignment between the block and the bellhousing. It serves as a backing and dust shield at the rear of the engine where the transmission bolts up. Owners replace this plate when the original has been bent, cracked, corroded, or lost during engine or transmission removal, or when a buyer is reassembling an engine and transmission and needs the correct rear plate to complete the joint. A missing or damaged rear plate can leave the back of the block exposed and can affect proper mating of the engine and transmission. Built to Ford specifications, the plate provides the correct shape, bolt pattern, and thickness to install between the block and bellhousing without modification.
