This camshaft gear is the variable cam timing actuator that controls the opposing camshaft, working with the engine oil control valve to phase valve events. It fits Ford EcoBoost engines from 2012 through 2023 including the Escape, Fusion and Edge built with the 2.0L turbo or 2.3L powerplant. A failing actuator produces cold-start rattle, cam correlation fault codes, hesitation and a loss of low-end torque during acceleration. Made to factory specification, it replaces the earlier service number and indexes precisely to the camshaft for proper variable valve timing.
