This Motorcraft engine coolant thermostat regulates coolant temperature on Ford's 3.5L and 3.7L naturally aspirated non-turbo V6 engines, keeping the coolant loop closed during warm-up and then opening at its calibrated temperature to admit radiator flow and hold a stable operating range. It is a broad multi-vehicle service part spanning 2005-2020 across numerous Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury car, crossover, and light-truck lines equipped with the 3.5L or 3.7L V6 without turbocharging, and it includes the thermostat gasket and installs as part of the housing assembly. Correct thermostat calibration supports fuel economy, emissions readiness, heater output, and consistent temperature. When the wax element weakens and the thermostat sticks open, the engine runs cold, the heater underperforms, and a coolant-temperature or insufficient-warm-up code can set, while a stuck-closed thermostat drives rapid overheating that can warp the cylinder heads and fail gaskets. Age and coolant contamination are common causes. Install with the supplied gasket against a clean surface, refill with the specified coolant, and bleed the cooling system so the thermostat opens on the first heat cycle.
