• Description:

  This Genuine Ford Motorcraft direct ignition coil boot is the insulating boot that bridges the coil-on-plug ignition coil to the spark plug terminal on 3.5L and 3.7L Ford V6 engines, covering turbocharged and non-turbocharged 3.5L applications from the 2015 to 2017 model years. The boot seals the spark plug well, channels high-voltage energy from the coil to the plug, and prevents that energy from arcing to the cylinder head or surrounding metal. Ford supplies this boot as part number WR-6135; it is the same boot included with a new ignition coil, offered separately so a cracked or carbon-tracked boot can be renewed without replacing the entire coil. A hardened, split, or oil-soaked boot lets spark leak to ground, producing a cylinder-specific misfire, rough idle, a flashing check engine light, stumbling under load, and reduced fuel economy; moisture or oil intrusion into the plug well accelerates the failure. Inspect the boot for cracks, swelling, or carbon tracks whenever a coil is removed. When installing, apply a light film of dielectric grease inside the boot, seat it fully onto the spark plug until it snaps home, and press the coil down until it seats squarely so the spark path stays sealed. Renewing the boot restores a reliable high-voltage connection to the plug and clears the intermittent misfire that a degraded boot causes on these Ford V6 engines.
