This genuine Ford Motorcraft tire pressure monitoring sensor valve assembly is the 315 MHz unit designated for the spare wheel position on a wide range of Ford vehicles, including applications with an 18, 19, or 20 inch spare and configurations with dual rear wheels. Mounted to the spare tire, it measures inflation pressure and temperature and transmits that reading by radio frequency to the vehicle body control module so the system can alert the driver if the stowed spare is low and would be unsafe to press into service. Buyers typically need this part when the tire pressure light will not clear after rotating a full-size spare into use, when the spare position reads no data, or when the sealed internal battery in the original sensor has reached end of life, since these rubber-stem units cannot be serviced or recharged. Ford treats the sensor as a single-use item whose valve stem seal is disturbed on removal, so a new assembly is fitted rather than reusing the original. Following installation the sensor must be trained and relearned to the vehicle and its wheel position with the correct relearn procedure so the receiver recognizes the new unit and assigns it to the spare location; skipping this step leaves the monitoring lamp on. Verify that the 315 MHz frequency matches your vehicle's receiver before fitting, as the system does not support mixed frequencies among positions.
