• Description:

  This Motorcraft engine coolant thermostat regulates coolant flow on Ford's 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L modular gasoline V8 and V10 engines, remaining closed during cold start so coolant circulates only through the block and then opening at its calibrated set point to route flow through the radiator and stabilize operating temperature. It is a widely shared service thermostat used across many modular-engine Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury trucks, vans, and SUVs, including F-150, Super Duty, and Expedition applications. Maintaining the correct temperature protects fuel economy, cabin heat, emissions performance, and long-term engine durability. A thermostat that sticks open produces a chronic cold-running condition with poor heat and reduced economy and often a coolant-temperature warning, while one that sticks closed causes coolant temperature to climb rapidly, risking boil-over, warped heads, and blown gaskets. A weak or corroded wax element and old coolant are typical failure causes. Install with a fresh gasket, orient the sensing element toward the engine, refill with the specified coolant, and bleed air from the system so the thermostat opens correctly on the first cycle.
