This is the genuine Ford Motorcraft automatic transmission gear position sensor, also known as the digital transmission range sensor, for the 5R110W TorqShift five-speed automatic. It fits Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks and E-Series E-150 through E-450 vans equipped with the 5R110W transmission. The sensor reports which gear the shift lever has selected to the powertrain control module, enabling park and neutral start safety, correct reverse lamp operation, and proper shift scheduling. When it wears or fails, the vehicle may crank only in certain lever positions or not at all, start in the wrong gear, show incorrect or missing gear indication on the dash, illuminate the transmission warning, or engage harshly or with delay, often storing range-sensor trouble codes. Ford supplies this as a complete sensor assembly, so align it correctly to the manual shaft during installation, verify neutral-start operation, and confirm the dash gear display matches the lever position before returning the vehicle to service.
