This Genuine Ford Motorcraft tension pulley kit, part number YS-255, provides the idler and tensioning pulley that keeps the accessory drive belt properly loaded on heavy-duty gasoline V10 applications. It fits the 6.8L V10 engine used in the Ford E-550 Super Duty and the Ford F53 motorhome stripped chassis across a broad range of model years, and it crosses to the 2C2Z-8678-AA service assembly. The pulley rides on a sealed bearing and presents a smooth face to the back of the belt; as that bearing wears it can produce a growling or grinding noise, allow belt flutter, or let the belt lose proper tension and slip. Slipping or misaligned belts on these large motorhome and cutaway chassis can lead to weak charging, poor cooling, and loss of power steering assist, so a rough pulley should be replaced promptly. Confirm the new pulley turns smoothly and mounts securely, and inspect the belt and tensioner spring before returning the chassis to service.
