• Description:

  This genuine Ford sensor assembly is the air charge temperature sensor, known in Ford service literature as the intake air temperature or IAT sensor and sometimes shown as an intake manifold temperature sensor. It is a thermistor that threads or clips into the intake air stream and reports the temperature of the air entering the engine to the powertrain control module, which uses that reading with mass air flow and manifold pressure data to calculate air density, trim fuel delivery, adjust spark timing and protect the engine from detonation on hot, dense-charge days. This is a genuine cross-platform part rather than a single-line component: dealer catalogs list it across roughly 1995 through 2008 Ford applications including Contour, Escort, E-150, E-250, E-350 and E-450, Expedition, Explorer, F-150 and Ranger, along with Lincoln Continental, Mark VIII and Navigator and Mercury Cougar, Mystique and Tracer. A failing unit rarely strands the driver but it degrades the calibration, so the usual complaints are a check engine light with an intake air temperature circuit code, poor fuel economy, rough or extended cold starts, hesitation, black smoke or a failed emissions test caused by a rich or lean bias. Contaminated, cracked or heat-damaged sensors drift instead of failing outright, which is why resistance should be checked cold against specification. Handle the tip carefully, do not clean it with solvent, and verify the connector pins are clean and tight on installation.
