This is the genuine Ford Motorcraft brake light switch, catalog part number SW-6545, also cataloged as a stoplamp switch. Mounted at the brake pedal bracket, it closes its contacts when the pedal is pressed to illuminate the stop lamps and to signal the powertrain and body control modules for functions such as the brake-shift interlock, speed control cancellation and torque converter clutch release. It is used across a broad range of 2005 through 2019 Ford vehicles including the Escape, Mustang and Explorer that share this pedal switch. Failure symptoms include brake lights that stay on or fail to illuminate, an inability to shift out of park, cruise control that will not engage or cancel, a lit warning light, or intermittent stop lamp operation.
