• Description:

  This Motorcraft engine coolant temperature sender threads into the engine coolant passage and changes its resistance with coolant temperature to feed the instrument-panel temperature gauge, giving the driver an accurate indication of how hot the engine is running. This gauge sender serves a broad range of 1996 through 2011 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles as a genuine Ford OEM component. It is distinct from the powertrain control module's engine coolant temperature sensor; this unit drives the dash gauge circuit. When the sender fails, the temperature gauge may stay cold and never rise, swing to full hot regardless of actual conditions, read erratically, or drop out intermittently, which can hide a genuine overheating problem from the driver. Replacing the sender restores a dependable gauge reading so cooling-system issues can be spotted before they cause engine damage. The threaded body seals into the coolant passage, so install it into a clean port, apply the sealant Ford specifies, and tighten carefully to prevent a coolant leak or damage to the housing. Confirm the gauge responds correctly as the engine warms up after installation.
