• Description:

  This Genuine Ford Motorcraft direct ignition coil boot is the insulating rubber boot that connects the coil-on-plug ignition coil to the spark plug terminal on 2017-2021 Ford engines, cataloged by Ford under part number WR-6151 and cross-referenced to HU7Z-12A402-A. Seated deep in the spark plug well, the boot channels high-voltage energy from the coil to the plug and seals the well against moisture, oil, and debris while preventing that energy from arcing to the cylinder head. It is the same boot included with a new ignition coil, offered separately so a worn boot can be renewed without replacing the coil. When the boot hardens, splits, carbon-tracks, or becomes oil-soaked, spark leaks to ground and the affected cylinder misfires, producing a rough idle, a flashing or steady check engine light with a cylinder-specific misfire code, hesitation under load, and reduced fuel economy; water or oil pooling in the plug well accelerates the breakdown. Inspect the boot for cracks, swelling, and carbon tracks any time a coil is pulled. During installation, wipe the plug well clean, apply a light film of dielectric grease inside the boot, seat it fully onto the spark plug until it snaps home, and press the coil squarely into place so the high-voltage path stays sealed.
