• Description:

  This Motorcraft engine coolant thermostat seal, Ford part BR3Z-8255-A, is the rubber sealing O-ring for the coolant outlet, thermostat housing, or coolant pipe joint on a wide span of late-model Ford engines. It seals the pressurized coolant connection where the outlet or pipe meets the engine, keeping the cooling system sealed and directing flow through the thermostat as designed. Over time the elastomer hardens and loses its compressive set, allowing coolant to weep from the joint. A driver typically notices a slow coolant loss, damp or crusty green or orange residue around the housing, an occasional sweet odor, and creeping coolant temperature as the system struggles to stay full and pressurized. Because it is a single-use sealing ring, it should be replaced any time the thermostat, coolant outlet, or connecting pipe is disturbed, and never reinstalled. Wipe both mating surfaces clean, lubricate lightly with clean coolant if specified, seat the seal squarely, and tighten the fasteners to the Ford torque value to ensure a durable, leak-free seal.
