This is the genuine Ford Motorcraft ignition lock cylinder, catalog part number SW-6383, the key-operated lock and tumbler assembly that mounts in the steering column ignition switch housing and rotates through the accessory, run and start positions. Turning the key rotates the cylinder to actuate the ignition switch, enabling the electrical positions and cranking. It is used across a broad range of Ford cars, trucks and vans, with applications spanning F-150 and F-250 trucks, the Crown Victoria and E-Series vans over many model years that share this cylinder design. Owners replace this cylinder when the key will not turn or turns with difficulty, when the key sticks between positions, when the cylinder is so worn that a worn key slips, when the ignition falls back to off on its own, or after a lock-related no-start where the tumblers are damaged.
