• Description:

  This is the genuine Motorcraft Delta Pressure Feedback EGR sensor, Ford part number DPFE-4, an emissions pressure transducer that monitors the pressure difference across the EGR metering orifice and reports it to the engine control module so the module can regulate exhaust gas recirculation flow. Ford lists it as the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) pressure sensor, a cross-platform component applied across a broad span of 1998 to 2007 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles, which is why it is sold as a multi-vehicle service part instead of being tied to a single model or year. The sensor uses two hose connections to sense the vacuum drop across the orifice tube and converts it into a voltage signal; as it ages the signal can wander out of range or go flat. A driver dealing with a failing sensor commonly sees an illuminated check engine light with EGR flow codes, a rough or hunting idle, part-throttle hesitation or surge, detonation under load, and a failed state emissions inspection. Torn or brittle sensor hoses, soot contamination, and thermal fatigue are the usual culprits.
