This is the genuine Ford positive battery terminal cover, cataloged simply as Cover / Cap. It is the molded protective cap that snaps over the positive (+) battery post and cable terminal to insulate the live connection, guarding against accidental short circuits from dropped tools, sparks, and arcing to nearby metal, and shielding the terminal from corrosion, moisture and engine-bay heat. It fits a very broad range of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles from the mid 1990s into the 2010s, including Crown Victoria, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, F-250, Mustang, Taurus, Thunderbird, the F53 motorhome chassis, and Lincoln Navigator. Owners replace this cap when the original is cracked, brittle, melted, discolored or missing after battery service, leaving the hot positive terminal exposed. A missing or broken cover is a safety and inspection concern and lets road grime and battery acid vapor reach the terminal and accelerate corrosion. The genuine cover is molded to the correct shape to clip securely over the factory positive terminal and cable clamp and hinge clear for service. Confirm the cover matches your positive terminal and cable orientation, then press it down until it latches so it stays seated over bumps and does not chafe on surrounding components.
