  This is the genuine Ford push pin, catalogued as a hood insulation pad clip and insulator retainer, used across a very broad range of vehicles from the mid 1980s through the early 2010s. The push pin secures the hood insulation pad to the underside of the hood, holding the sound- and heat-deadening blanket flat against the panel so it does the job of muffling engine noise and protecting the hood paint from underhood heat. These pins are commonly needed when the originals have aged and become brittle, have broken, or were lost when the insulation was removed, which lets the pad sag, droop onto the engine, or fall away entirely. Fitting fresh pins restores the pad to its proper position. This part supersedes the earlier 385595-S and 386553-S pins.
