This genuine Ford Motorcraft Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing O-Ring is the OEM seal that fits between the thermostat housing and the engine on a wide range of 2007 through 2025 Ford gasoline engines, including the 3.3L, 3.5L without turbo, 3.7L, 5.0L, and the 5.2L found in the Shelby GT350 and GT350R. It creates the pressure-tight joint at the thermostat housing so the cooling system holds pressure and the thermostat can control coolant flow and operating temperature. A hardened or cracked O-ring lets coolant weep from the housing, producing orange or green residue around the thermostat area, a coolant odor, a falling reservoir level, air drawn into the system, and temperature readings that fluctuate or climb. Because it is molded to the exact bore and cross-section Ford specifies, it seats fully in the housing groove without distortion and restores the original leak-free seal. It is a single-use seal and should be replaced any time the thermostat or housing is removed rather than reused, with clean, dry mating surfaces at assembly. Catalogued by Ford as the thermostat housing O-ring and offered as a genuine Motorcraft component, it is backed by the applicable Ford and Motorcraft warranty and returns the cooling system to a reliable, sealed condition.
