This is the genuine Motorcraft 315 MHz Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensor, the wheel-mounted device that measures tire air pressure and transmits it by radio frequency to the body control module so the cluster can alert the driver to a low tire. It supersedes the DE8T-1A180-AA / 9L3Z-1A189-A service sensor and is one of Ford's broadest multi-vehicle applications, covering a wide range of car, SUV and light-truck lines from roughly 2009 through 2024 including F-150, Edge, Escape, Explorer, Focus, Fusion, Mustang and Expedition plus Lincoln and Mercury variants. Someone buying this is generally dealing with an illuminated TPMS light, a telltale that flashes at startup, or a wheel showing no pressure, all typical once the sealed internal battery runs down after years of use. One sensor is fitted per wheel and operates at 315 MHz, so it must not be mixed with 433 MHz sensors on the same vehicle. A tire-pressure sensor relearn or programming procedure with an activation tool is required after install so the module recognizes the new sensor and its location.
