This is the genuine Motorcraft Tire Pressure Monitoring System valve stem cap, the sealing cap that threads onto the valve stem of a direct TPMS sensor to keep dirt, moisture and debris out of the valve core and help maintain the air seal at the wheel. It is a broad multi-vehicle Ford and Lincoln service item covering roughly 2009 through 2025 across many car, SUV and truck lines that use direct tire-pressure sensors. The correct Ford cap is the matched non-corroding type; using a mismatched metal cap on a TPMS valve can allow galvanic corrosion that seizes the cap to the stem and damages the sensor's valve when a tire shop tries to remove it, so replacing a lost or corroded cap with the proper Motorcraft cap protects the sensor. A driver typically needs this after a cap is lost at a tire rotation or found frozen onto the stem. One cap is used at each valve stem. No programming is required for the cap itself, though the sensor it protects requires a relearn if that sensor is ever replaced.
