• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford differential carrier bearing for the 8.8 inch rear axle used across a broad range of Ford trucks and SUVs, including Mustang, Expedition and Navigator, on axles built without a limited-slip differential and using the 9.75 inch ring gear family. The bearing supports the differential carrier within the axle housing and sets carrier position and preload, allowing the carrier and ring gear to rotate smoothly while holding precise alignment against the pinion. A worn or pitted carrier bearing typically announces itself with a howl, rumble or growl that changes with vehicle speed, and if neglected it leads to play in the ring-and-pinion mesh, accelerated gear wear and eventual driveline damage. Replacement is part of any axle rebuild, gear swap or differential overhaul. This is a single-use bearing that cannot be reused once it has been pressed off or run in service; always install a new bearing rather than reinstalling the original, as a reused bearing will not retain correct preload and can fail prematurely. Carrier bearing preload must be set to specification using the correct shims, and the ring gear backlash and gear-tooth contact pattern should be verified during reassembly.
